My first NR book was Devine Evil over 20 years ago.

Since then I have been a faithful reader. I decided I was going to have a little fun and go back to the first book NR ever wrote and every book since - in the order she wrote them. Song of the west is the third. Now, we are going back to the time of discos and urban cowboys, but still you can read her books and the still feel current.

Never mind that her male characters are largely chauvinistic and her female characters are virgins. I won't complain about a little wholesome romance. If there are any complaints with her early books, it is that as much as the scenery changes, the characters not so much. Our heroes are a bit overbearing and uncommunicative and our heroines think that they are out of the heroes league and in fact that they are competition with another woman spoiled, beautiful and down right mean.

All in all Song of the west was just good old fashioned boy meets girl and then threatens to hog tie them. Moving on to the next in the list - interested to see how NR evolves over time. At least the physically intimate moments seemed more tender than a battle for dominance.

I really liked the setting - it made me want to ride away into the sunset on a beautiful horse. Samantha was likable but everyone kept comment on her height 5'4 like she was a tiny child which made me furrow my brow. I am 5'4 and slim That aside, Samantha and Jake were actually quite likable and the pairing seemed more on an even footing. Samantha had a temper though that seems like a trend with her heroines too and would not be run roughshod over.

Definitely a step up from the last one. Sep 30, Mari rated it liked it. They were much the same, just this was part of a story in Wyoming. Sam quits her job out east and comes to help her twin sister during her pregnancy.

Her sister, Sabrina, lives out on a ranch and their neighbor, Jake, is very interested in Sam. This is similar to the other story, he waits till the end to actually tell her how he feels. Good old classic Silhouette romance - I had forgotten how easy it was to read these. A short read at around pages. Not memorable, but an ok book. From a modern POV I think Jake is far too demanding and kind of an ass for the misleading times with Lesley he couldn't be oblivious to how that looked, and letting her act like she owned him was stupid.

I know it's supposed to be romantic somehow, but the fact that he fell half in love with a photo of her at 15 years old is a little creepy. Song of the West Nora Roberts is one of my favorite writers. She and others that wrote for Harlequin in the seventies and eighties hooked me forever.

This book was a work of art.

Samantha is like a Jill of all trades but The story felt like it was written by Diana Palmer than Nora Roberts.

Anyway, the "view" of the place sounded wonderful. The male love interest o f this book is incredibly possessive and bossy which I did not vibe well with.

A few of the scenes with him were borderline rapey. The only reason I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 is because I enjoyed the relationship between the sisters so much. Aug 24, elstaffe rated it really liked it. Actually enjoyed this a lot more than I expected, especially given my last experience with early Noras. A pleasant surprise! May 24, Sophie rated it liked it Shelves: Quick, easy and light hearted. Same problem with a lot of Nora's older books - they age badly especially in terms of the male lead not taking no for an answer.

Dumb story but entertaining. Very quick read. Feb 26, Vicki rated it liked it. Good read I like how the story is centered in wyomining and tells a lot about the state.
